Spring Break Land Cut Fishing

What should a few friends do on a spring break day? Just Go Fishin. That's exactly what we did. The weather gave us a break with 11 - 20 mph Southeast winds and a high of 80 degrees. It looked like we couldn't have a bad day. We had the added bonus of cloud cover from the sun for most of the day. After picking up some live shrimp at Clems marina, Joe Cantu, David Weatherston, and I headed South to the Land Cut. Even though the bite was slow, each bite was quality! Catching several nice sized black drum, speckled trout, redfish, and sheepshead.

Joe Cantu with a 22 inch black drum
David Weatherston with a 27 inch black drum
I caught my personal best redfish and managed to capture back the "boat redfish record" with this nice 31 1/2 inch bull. She was a real beauty. After a few pictures we released her back in the water.
My strangest catch of the day was this black drum. Not that the black drum was strange, but how she was caught. By some dumb luck or bad luck for the fish, I hooked a leader previously in this fishes mouth. You can see the circle hook in drums mouth with a broken leader line where my hook latched on.What are the odds of this happening?

Terrific spring break day at the land cut enjoying fishing with some of my buddies. Hope y'all enjoy the video we put together. Have a great day of fishin,
